Chapter 9 - The Ghost’s Reckoning

The headline dominated global news within hours: "BILLIONAIRE LOGISTICS MOGUL SURVIVES CLIFFSIDE ASSASSINATION PLOT; HUSBAND ARRESTED IN DARING FBI STING."

To the public, Eleanor Vance was a heroic survivor. To the international intelligence underground, Agent Ghost had officially reclaimed her crown.

In a high-security holding cell in downtown Manhattan, Julian sat in orange jumpsuits, staring at the concrete floor. The cold reality of his sentence—life imprisonment without parole—was crashing down on him. But his misery was far from complete.

The heavy steel door swung open. Julian looked up, expecting his court-appointed attorney. Instead, Eleanor walked in, dressed in an immaculate white suit, her aura radiant and completely imposing. Behind her stepped Marcus, her formidable tactical chief.

"Eleanor..." Julian rasped, his voice cracked. "Are you here to gloat? To watch me rot?"

"Gloat? No, Julian," Eleanor said calmly, sitting across from him at the metal table. "I’m here to close the ledgers."

She placed a thin leather folder between them. Julian leaned forward, his hands shaking in heavy chains.

"What is this?"

"This is the final liquidation of every asset you thought you owned," Eleanor said, flipping open the folder. "Your family's ancestral estate in Europe? Bought by my foundation. Your personal art collection? Auctioned to fund shelters for survivors of domestic violence. Even the watch on your wrist when you were arrested now belongs to a public charity."

Julian’s face turned pale. "You took everything... You destroyed my family legacy!"

"No, Julian. You sacrificed your family legacy the moment you tried to sell my life for a hundred million dollars," Eleanor said, leaning close, her gaze piercing through him like ice. "And there's one more thing."

Marcus placed a tablet on the table, displaying a live feed of the federal prison where Julian was set to serve his sentence.

"The three thugs you hired—Vector, Snake, and Razor?" Eleanor whispered with a chilling smile. "They made a plea bargain with federal prosecutors. In exchange for reduced sentences, they agreed to share a cellblock with you. They aren't very happy that you paid them with marked, traceable bills that got them captured."

Julian’s eyes dilated with sheer terror. "No... no! You can't put me in there with them! They’ll tear me apart!"

"Enjoy your new life, Julian," Eleanor stood up, adjusting her jacket without a second glance. "Greetings from your wife."
