CHAPTER 2 — The Secret Hidden Inside the Scan
Outside the examination room, Dr. Brooks stood silently with two senior specialists.
No one spoke for nearly a minute.
Finally one of them broke the silence.
"Are you going to tell her?"
Dr. Brooks slowly shook her head.
"Not yet."
The younger doctor stared at the ultrasound images again.
"It doesn't make sense..."
"The baby's condition isn't the only problem."
He enlarged another section of the scan.
A dark shadow appeared near Emma's abdomen.
It wasn't where it should have been.
"It looks like..."
"No," Dr. Brooks interrupted.
"It can't be."
They immediately ordered an emergency MRI.
Emma waited alone in the hospital room, convinced every passing minute brought her baby closer to death.
She called her husband, Daniel.
No answer.
She texted him.
Nothing.
Hours later, he finally arrived.
Instead of comforting her, he looked distracted.
Almost nervous.
"What did the doctors say?" he asked.
Emma burst into tears and told him everything.
Daniel hugged her.
But his eyes never showed fear.
Only calculation.
That night, while Emma slept, Dr. Brooks received the MRI results.
She opened the file.
Her face turned completely pale.
It wasn't a pregnancy complication.
It wasn't cancer.
And it wasn't anything anyone in the hospital had expected.
The shadow inside Emma's body was actually evidence of a medical procedure that had been performed years ago...
A procedure Emma had absolutely no memory of.
Someone had erased an entire chapter of her life.
Dr. Brooks immediately locked the report inside her office.
Because if the truth came out...
It wouldn't just destroy Emma's family.
It would expose a conspiracy involving the very people she trusted most.
