CHAPTER 6 — The Video No One Was Supposed to See
The janitor quietly knocked on Dr. Brooks’ office door.
“I think you need this.”
He carried a dusty hard drive that had automatically stored security footage from years earlier.
Most people didn’t even know it still existed.
Within minutes, Dr. Brooks loaded the files.
The screen flickered.
Then an operating room appeared.
Date:
Four years earlier.
Emma lay unconscious on the operating table.
Daniel stood beside the surgeon.
He wasn’t crying.
He wasn’t praying.
He was negotiating.
“How much?” Daniel asked.
The surgeon answered without hesitation.
“Five million dollars.”
Daniel slid a black briefcase across the floor.
“No baby.”
“No records.”
“No questions.”
Dr. Brooks gasped.
The room fell silent.
Emma covered her mouth, unable to breathe.
The footage continued.
Just as the surgeon reached for the surgical instruments…
Another doctor burst into the operating room.
“STOP!”
“She’s carrying twins!”
Everyone froze.
Twins?
Emma collapsed into tears.
“My babies…”
But the next few seconds were even more shocking.
The video suddenly cut to black.
Someone had manually erased the final eight minutes.
No one knew whether the twins had survived.
No one…
Except the mysterious doctor whose face was hidden by a surgical mask.
And at that very moment, a stranger walked into the hospital carrying a small silver necklace engraved with two tiny names:
