Chapter 7 - The Uninvited Guest

Derek stood frozen at the edge of the table, his brain struggling to process the vision before him. This wasn't the tired woman in gray leggings who packed leftover stew into glass containers. This was a lethal, breathtaking stranger.

"Sien?" he stammered, taking a hesitant step forward. "What... what are you doing here? How did you afford this place? Your accounts—our accounts—"

Sienna didn't look up from her wine glass immediately. She took a slow sip, savoring the vintage, before raising her gaze to meet his. Her eyes were as cold and sharp as broken glass.

"Sit down, Derek," she said, her voice carrying a calm authority that commanded compliance.

Mechanically, like a man walking to the gallows, Derek slid into the plush velvet booth opposite her. The scent of her perfume—not eucalyptus, but a sharp, expensive floral note he had never smelled on her before—floated across the table.

"Sien, please," Derek whispered, leaning forward, his voice cracking with desperation. "I know I messed up. I was an idiot. A complete, irredeemable fool. But we can fix this. We can go to therapy, we can sell the house, we can start over—"

"Start over?" Sienna interrupted, a dry, humorless chuckle escaping her lips. She reached into her designer leather handbag and pulled out a thick, legal-sized manila folder. She slid it across the white tablecloth. It stopped right in front of his trembling hands.

"What is this?" Derek asked, his voice shaking.

"That is the petition for dissolution of marriage, filed and stamped by the court this morning," Sienna said evenly. "Along with a comprehensive division of assets that leaves you with precisely zero percent of our marital property, zero access to my personal trust inheritance, and a court-mandated obligation to pay back every cent of the corporate funds you embezzled to finance your little affairs."

Derek stared at the folder as if it were a venomous snake. "You... you can't do this. We’re partners! We built this together!"

"No, Derek," Sienna corrected softly, leaning across the table so her face was inches from his. "You built a castle out of lies, and you expected me to stay in the basement doing the laundry while you entertained your mistresses upstairs. Game over."

Before Derek could formulate a frantic plea, a shadow fell over the table.

A tall, impeccably dressed young waiter holding a silver tray stepped forward with a polite, professional smile.

"Good evening, Madame Hayes. Enjoying your evening?" the waiter asked smoothly.

"Everything is wonderful, Julian," Sienna replied, offering the waiter a warm, genuine smile that she hadn't given Derek in years. "Thank you."

Julian nodded, then turned his attention to Derek. His polite smile remained, but his eyes were ice cold. He reached into his apron pocket, pulled out a crisp, sealed envelope, and dropped it squarely on top of Derek’s divorce papers.

"Excuse me, sir," Julian said politely. "You dropped this on your way in. Or rather... your mistress dropped it for you last Thursday."
