Chapter 6 - THE RED CARPET AMBUSHThe flashbulbs outside the historic Plaza Hotel flashed like tactical lightning strokes against the damp evening air. Limousines lined Fifth Avenue for three blocks, disgorging Manhattan’s elite—politicians, CEOs, judges, and high-society socialites dripping in diamonds and expensive silk.

Inside the grand ballroom, classical string quartets played softly beneath glittering crystal chandeliers, while waiters in pristine white jackets poured vintage champagne.

At the center of the grand staircase stood Senator Arthur Bellini, flanked by his weeping, grief-stricken daughter, Bianca Bellini. Bianca wore a stunning, custom-tailored crimson silk evening gown that screamed high-society tragedy.

"Thank you all for coming," Senator Bellini spoke into the podium microphone, his voice dripping with faux sorrow. "As you know, my family has endured a terrible trauma over the last twenty-four hours. My daughter’s wedding was shattered by a man whose criminal syndicate knows no bounds—a man who has not only threatened our family, but has abducted my innocent granddaughter..."

Suddenly, the heavy oak double doors at the main entrance of the ballroom didn't just open—they slammed backward with a thunderous crash that silenced the entire orchestra mid-note.

Every head in the grand ballroom snapped toward the entrance.

The murmurs died instantly, replaced by a suffocating, terrified silence.

Striding through the doors was Dante Moretti.

He wore an immaculate, custom-tailored black tuxedo that fit his lethal frame like a second skin. His dark hair was slicked back, and his cold, unblinking eyes scanned the room like an apex predator entering a feeding ground.

But it was the woman walking beside him that caused a collective intake of breath across the ballroom.

Elena Parker—the woman who had spent two years organizing coffee orders and shuffling paperwork—wore an emerald-green silk-velvet backless gown that hugged her curves to perfection, custom-ordered and delivered to the citadel just two hours prior by Dante’s private couturier. Her dark hair was swept up in an elegant chignon, and her posture radiated absolute, unshakeable poise.

She wasn't his assistant anymore. She was the Queen of the Moretti Syndicate.

Senator Bellini dropped his microphone, his face turning the color of curdled milk. "Security!" he shrieked, his voice cracking with panic. "Federal Marshals! Arrest that man! He is a fugitive!"

Before the armed guards lining the perimeter could draw their weapons, four sleek black-suited men from Dante’s elite detail stepped forward, blocking the aisles with submachine guns concealed beneath their tailored jackets, their eyes locked warningly on the crowd.

Dante walked slowly up the grand staircase, his arm securely around Elena’s waist, until he stood mere feet away from Senator Bellini and a trembling Bianca.

"Arrest me, Arthur?" Dante’s voice carried effortlessly across the silent, terrified ballroom, amplified by the hall's acoustics. "On what charge? Embezzlement? Kidnapping?"

"You are a criminal fugitive!" Bellini stammered, his political mask cracking entirely. "You and your... your whore of an assistant!"

Before the word had even finished leaving the Senator’s mouth, Dante moved with terrifying, blinding speed.

In a single fluid motion, Dante seized Bellini by the lapels of his expensive Brioni suit, lifting the heavyweight politician a full two inches off the marble floor with one hand.

The entire ballroom gasped. Several socialites screamed.

"You can call me a criminal, Arthur," Dante whispered, his voice dangerously low, yet carrying to every corner of the room. "You can fabricate warrants. You can send your pathetic little hit squads to my penthouse. But you never, ever speak that way about the woman standing beside me."

Bianca stepped forward, her face twisted in absolute fury and jealousy. "Dante, have you lost your mind?! She’s a nobody! A secretary who manipulated you!"

Elena stepped forward, her gaze cool, calm, and razor-sharp. She reached into her evening clutch, pulled out a gold-embossed flash drive, and tossed it casually onto the podium beside the Senator's fallen microphone.

"I wouldn't talk about manipulation, Bianca," Elena said, her voice ringing clear across the hall. "Especially not when every financial record of the Bellini family’s offshore cartel laundering accounts was just automatically transmitted to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the SEC, and every major news outlet in the country—complete with your father’s digital signature."

Senator Bellini went completely limp in Dante’s grip.

"Check your phones, ladies and gentlemen," Elena added, looking out at the stunned crowd of judges, politicians, and CEOs. "The truth has just been delivered."
