Chapter 7 - THE CRACKING FAÇADEWithin seconds, the dead silence of the grand ballroom was broken by a bizarre, high-tech chorus.

Ping. Ping. Ping.
Hundreds of expensive smartphones buzzed simultaneously across the ballroom floor. Prominent CEOs, federal judges, and high-ranking politicians pulled their phones from pockets and evening bags, their faces draining of color as they stared at the emergency push notifications flooding their screens.
It was the unredacted digital ledger Elena had deployed—a masterclass in corporate forensics detailing how Senator Arthur Bellini had spent five years funneling syndicate drug money through dummy corporations disguised as municipal infrastructure projects.
Senator Bellini stared wildly around the room, seeing the cold, horrified stares of the very elite who had funded his political campaigns for decades.
"It’s fake!" Bellini choked out, his voice cracking desperately as he clawed at Dante’s grip on his lapel. "It’s a cyberattack! Moretti fabricated these documents to destroy me!"
"Did I, Arthur?"
A cool, commanding voice echoed from the main entrance of the ballroom.
The crowd parted nervously as three federal agents in dark suits—accompanied by the Director of the FBI’s New York Field Office—walked briskly up the grand staircase. They weren't local cops on the Senator’s payroll; they were federal investigators operating under direct orders from Washington.
The lead federal agent stopped in front of Senator Bellini and Dante Moretti, flashing a gold badge.
"Senator Arthur Bellini," the agent announced loudly, his voice echoing across the hall. "You are under arrest for federal corruption, money laundering, securities fraud, and conspiracy to commit murder."
Dante slowly loosened his grip, letting Bellini slump unceremoniously back onto the marble floor like a broken puppet. Dante casually dusted off his cuff links as federal agents swarmed the Senator, slapping heavy steel handcuffs onto his wrists.
"No! You can't do this! Do you know who I am?!" Bellini shrieked, thrashing as agents dragged him down the grand staircase past the flashing cameras of reporters who had already flooded the lobby.
Bianca stared in absolute horror as her father was hauled away in handcuffs. Her carefully constructed high-society life was evaporating before her eyes in real-time. She turned her tear-streaked, venomous glare toward Elena.
"You..." Bianca hissed, lunging forward with her fingernails bared like a cornered cat. "You ruined everything! You filthy little—"
Before Bianca could take two steps, two of Dante’s elite security guards stepped smoothly into her path, blocking her with impassive, stone-cold expressions.
Dante didn't even bother looking at her. He wrapped his arm securely around Elena’s waist once more, pulling her flush against his side.
"Take Miss Bellini outside," Dante instructed coldly. "Ensure her family's assets are frozen before midnight. If she attempts to contact my niece or anyone under my protection ever again, treat her as a hostile threat."
"Dante! You can't do this to me!" Bianca screamed as security gently, but firmly, escorted her out of the ballroom doors under the relentless flash of media cameras.
The ballroom fell into an eerie, deferential quiet. The high-society elites who had fawned over the Bellini family just twenty minutes ago now stood in absolute silence, lowering their eyes whenever Dante’s gaze swept across the room.
Elena let out a long, shuddering breath, the adrenaline finally beginning to fade from her veins.
"Well," Elena whispered, looking up at Dante with a faint, ironic smile. "That certainly beats sending a resignation email."
May you like
Dante looked down at her, the cold, ruthless syndicate boss melting away to reveal the raw, intense devotion burning in his eyes.
"Resignation denied, Miss Parker," Dante murmured, his voice thick with emotion. "Now... let's go home. Sophia is waiting for us."
