Chapter 3 - The Countdown in GenevaThe silence in the restaurant shattered into chaotic murmurs as Rashid was dragged out into the rain, his maniacal laughter fading into the night.

Director Vance turned to Elena, his face pale under the harsh restaurant chandeliers. “Elena… what was he talking about? What vault in Geneva?”
Elena’s eyes narrowed into slits of ice. She grabbed her leather briefcase from under the service station—a briefcase that had been sitting right next to the restaurant’s extra napkins the whole time.
“He wasn’t just laundering money for himself,” Elena said rapidly, her fingers flying across the keypad of her encrypted tablet. “The port deal wasn’t the endgame. It was a distraction. He’s running a dead-man’s switch algorithm named Project Phoenix.”
“Explain!” Vance demanded, signaling his team to secure the perimeter.
“Rashid created a automated cyber-weapon embedded inside the Swiss Central Clearing Network,” Elena explained, her voice sharp, calm, and deadly fast. “If his biometric heartbeat or daily passcode wasn’t verified by midnight Geneva time, the program executes. It doesn’t just steal money, Vance. It wipes the ledger balances of every major sovereign wealth fund on the planet. Stock markets will open tomorrow to absolute zero. Total global economic anarchy.”
“How long do we have?” Vance asked, panic creeping into his voice.
Elena checked her watch. 2 Hours, 14 Minutes.
“We can’t stop it from here,” she said, stripping off her black server apron to reveal a dark tactical suit underneath. “The override terminal is in a subterranean vault forty feet beneath the Banque de Geneve. And the only person with the hard-key to bypass the firewall is Rashid’s shadow partner.”
“Who?”
Elena looked up, her expression grave. “The man who was supposed to meet Rashid here tonight, but never showed up. The man who orchestrated this whole nightmare from the dark.”
She swiped her tablet screen and turned it toward Vance. On the screen was a photograph of a man with silver hair, cold blue eyes, and a scarred cheek.
“Lord Julian Vance-Cross,” Elena declared.
Director Vance gasped, stepping back as if he had been struck. “Your… your father?!”
“My adopted father,” Elena corrected, her voice dripping with cold fury. “The man who trained me, fake-adopted me into his elite spy network, and then framed my biological parents twenty years ago to build his financial empire. He put Rashid in the front lines as a pawn. Rashid thought he was the mastermind, but he was just the sacrificial lamb.”
The dramatic revelation sent shockwaves through the agents standing in the room. The waitress whom everyone believed was an ordinary girl was not only a top-tier special operative—she was hunting the shadow patriarch of the world’s most dangerous financial syndicate.
“He knew I’d arrest Rashid tonight,” Elena realized, her mind working at lightspeed. “He wanted me to arrest Rashid! Rashid’s arrest triggers the panic panic code that gives Julian total control over the override protocol!”
Suddenly, the lights in the restaurant flickered and died. Emergency red lights kicked on, casting a blood-red glow over the opulent dining hall.

From the restaurant’s speaker system, a smooth, cultured voice echoed through the room.
“Brilliant as always, my dear Elena,” the voice of Julian Vance-Cross purred over the intercom. “You always were my best student. But you’re too late. The countdown has begun. And in two hours, the world belongs to me.”
