Chapter 6 - The Architect of LiesJulian chuckled softly, reaching slowly for his coat pocket.

“Careful, Elena,” he warned gently, as if speaking to a child. “If you shoot me, my heart monitor stops. And if my heart monitor stops, the countdown doesn’t pause—it immediately jumps to zero. You shoot me, and you destroy the world economy yourself.”
Elena’s hand remained steady as iron. “Then I’ll cut off your thumbs and use your biometric key to manually abort the program.”
“Ah, but you can’t,” Julian replied with a smooth smirk. “Because the manual override isn’t here on this plane.”
Elena’s eyes flickered. “What?”
Julian stood up, buttoning his jacket. “Did you really think I would keep the master key on a plane with me? Sheikh Rashid believed he was the key. You believed I was the key. But the truth, my dear Elena, is far more delicious.”
He stepped closer, staring straight down the barrel of her gun.
“The override key to Project Phoenix,” Julian whispered, “is hardcoded into your neural system. The medical procedure I put you through ten years ago after your ‘accident’ wasn’t a surgery to save your life. It was an installation of a quantum encryption chip at the base of your skull.”
Elena froze. The room felt like it was spinning. Memories flashed through her mind—the dark room, the hospital machines, the months of rehabilitation after the crash that killed her parents.
“You’re lying,” she spat.
“Am I?” Julian smiled cruelly. He pulled out a small black scanner and aimed a red laser beam at her neck.
BEEP.
A high-pitched tone echoed from the scanner, and the countdown timer on the wall screen suddenly transformed, displaying a high-resolution scan of Elena’s brain, showing a glowing, microscopic micro-chip pulsating near her brainstem.
BIOMETRIC RECOGNIZED: SUBJECT ZERO (ELENA VANCE-CROSS) OVERRIDE PROTOCOL LOCKED.
“You see?” Julian laughed, his eyes glittering with madness. “You spent your entire life believing you were the righteous hunter, the noble hero fighting corruption. But you were built from day one to be my ultimate vault! The money isn’t going to my account, Elena. It’s going to an encrypted wallet registered under your name!”

“Why?!” Elena screamed, her composure finally breaking. “Why do all this?!”
“Because when the world economy crashes today, they won’t look for a ghost like me,” Julian hissed. “They will trace the biggest financial theft in human history straight to you, Commander Elena Vance-Cross! The hero who went rogue! The waitress who stole the world!”
