Chapter 4 - The Betrayal at 30,000 Feet“Trace that signal!” Vance screamed into his radio. “Trace it now!”

“No need,” Elena said coldly, drawing a customized, silenced firearm from a hidden holster inside her jacket. “He’s not in Geneva. He’s sitting on his private supersonic jet, sitting on the tarmac at the private airfield ten miles from here, waiting to fly straight into non-extradition airspace once the code triggers.”

She looked at Vance. “Get me a high-speed intercept vehicle. Now.”

Ten minutes later, a matte-black armored SUV was tearing through the rain-slicked streets of the metropolis, tires screaming around sharp corners. Red and blue police strobes reflected off the wet asphalt as Elena sat in the passenger seat, her eyes fixed on the digital map tracking the signal.

“Elena,” Vance said through the tactical comms. “We just checked Rashid’s phone records. There’s a traitor inside the Bureau. Someone leaked your undercover identity to Julian hours ago!”

Elena didn't look surprised. “I know.”

“You know? Who is it?!”

“You,” Elena said quietly.

Silence heavy as lead hung on the comms line.

Before Vance could respond, the SUV’s driver—an agent assigned by Vance—suddenly pulled a concealed pistol and aimed it directly at Elena’s head while keeping his other hand on the steering wheel at eighty miles per hour!

“Don’t move, Commander,” the driver hissed. “Director Vance sends his regards.”

Elena didn't panic. She didn't flinch.

With blinding speed, she grabbed the driver’s wrist, twisting it upward until the gun fired harmlessly into the SUV’s roof. In one fluid motion, she slammed her elbow into the driver’s jaw, unbuckled his seatbelt, and kicked open the driver-side door.

At seventy-five miles per hour, she shoved the traitorous agent straight out of the moving vehicle into the rainy night!

She grabbed the steering wheel, slid across the console into the driver’s seat, and slammed her foot onto the accelerator. The heavy SUV roared, spinning out before gripping the road and launching forward toward the airfield runway.

Through her earpiece, Julian’s laugh echoed again.

“Did you really think Vance was on your side, Elena? I built the Bureau. I built your career. Every move you’ve made for the last ten years was guided by my hand. You thought you were hunting me, but you were simply executing my master plan.”

Elena slammed her hand onto the comms console. “You made one mistake, Julian.”

“Oh? And what is that, my dear?”

“You taught me everything I know,” she hissed, pulling up to the airport perimeter fence. “But you didn’t teach me everything you know. You kept secrets. And so did I.”

She crashed the heavy SUV straight through the steel perimeter gate of the private airport, sending sparks and chain-link fencing flying into the air!

Ahead on the illuminated tarmac, a sleek, white Gulfstream G650 jet was already taxiing down the runway, its jet engines screaming as it built up speed for takeoff!
