Chapter 14 - The Ambush at Bellevue

That evening, Marcus Thorne foolishly showed up at the Bellevue Private Club, intending to rally his remaining board members. Instead, he walked into a private dining room occupied solely by Arthur Vance, Julian Thorne, and a squad of federal forensic auditors.

"Marcus," Julian greeted his brother coldly, setting a thick blue folder on the mahogany table. "You always were bad at reading financial fine print."

Marcus straightened his tie, trying to maintain his arrogant posture. "I own twenty percent of your European operations, Julian. You can't squeeze me out without destroying your own yield."

"You don't own twenty percent of our operations," Arthur Vance interjected, his thunderous voice filling the room. "You bought into a shell corporation designed specifically to absorb non-performing debts from our dead subsidiaries."

Marcus’s confidence evaporated. "What?"

"The documents you signed yesterday transferred thirty-two million dollars of Blackwood's liquid cash directly into Vance Community Housing," I said, stepping out from the terrace shadow into the dining room. "You just personally funded three hundred low-income homes for the mothers you tried to bankrupt."
