Chapter 8 - The Dawn Beyond the RiverSix months later, the spring thaw turned the Blackwood River into a rushing, glittering ribbon of blue beneath a cloudless sky.

Claire stood on the front porch of a charming, sun-drenched cottage overlooking the valley, the scent of blooming lilac drifting on the gentle breeze. In her arms, a six-month-old Leo gurgled happily, reaching out stubby fingers to grab at a passing butterfly.
Her life had changed irrevocably. She was a mother of vast wealth, yes, but more importantly, she was a survivor of a labyrinthine web of deceit that would have broken anyone else.
She walked down the wooden steps to the gravel pathway, where a small, dark-haired girl was kneeling by the flowerbed, planting bright red tulips into the rich earth.
"Careful, Sophie," Claire called out with a warm smile. "You're getting dirt all over your new shoes."
Sophie looked up, her serious gray eyes sparkling with laughter as she wiped a smudge of soil across her forehead. "It's okay, Miss Claire! Flowers need good dirt to grow!"
Claire paused, looking out past the garden toward the winding road that led down to the city. The past was gone—washed away like the wreckage in the river, buried beneath ash and truth. The man who had stolen her life, who had tried to build an empire on stolen blood and engineered secrets, was rotting in a maximum-security federal penitentiary, forgotten by the world he had tried to manipulate.
And here, in the warm spring sunlight, stood her true legacy.

Claire knelt beside the flowerbed, resting one hand on the fertile earth alongside Sophie’s small fingers, while holding her son close to her heart.
The river rushed on, carrying its secrets away to the sea, leaving behind only the green, unbroken promise of tomorrow.
