Chapter 10 - The Legend of ShadowThe rain began to fall again over the cobblestone alleys of Edinburgh, cold and relentless.

Underneath the stone arches of an old Victorian bridge, sheltered from the howling wind, a small campfire flickered casting warm, dancing shadows against the damp brick.

A little girl sat huddled in a slightly warmer, thicker coat, roasting a piece of cheap sausage over the open flame on a metal skewer. Curled up beside her, resting his muddy chin on his paws, was a scruffy mixed-breed dog with sharp, intelligent eyes that watched every movement in the surrounding shadows.

A young man—bruised, desperate, and shivering from the Scottish cold—stumbled out of the darkness of the alley, clutching a torn jacket around his bleeding shoulder. He stopped when he saw the child and the dog, his breath hitching in fear.

"Hey... kid," the man rasped, his voice trembling. "I... I need help. They're chasing me."

Lily didn't panic. She didn't reach for a weapon, nor did she run. She simply pulled a clean handkerchief and a small bottle of antiseptic from her pocket, tossing them across the stone floor toward the stranger.

Shadow raised his head, letting out a soft, low rumble—not a snarl of anger, but a sound of pure, unyielding vigilance.

Lily looked up at the stranger, her eyes reflecting the warm, steady glow of the fire.

"Sit down," she said quietly, her voice carrying an authority far beyond her years. "My dog says you're safe here. For now."

The hunted man stared at her in utter disbelief, slowly sinking to his knees beside the fire as the rain poured down above them, whispering secrets into the dark streets of a world that would never truly understand the silent protectors who walked among them.
