Chapter 7 - Reckoning at DawnThe command bunker looked like a war zone. Smoke drifted from shattered server towers, and two of Julian’s elite guards were unconscious on the floor, trussed up in thick communication cables.

Julian Vance sat pinned against the main control console, gasping for breath, with Shadow standing squarely on his chest, a heavy paw planted firmly over Julian's sternum. The dog’s low, rhythmic growl vibrated through Julian's ribcage like a pneumatic drill.

Viktor stepped into the room, his boots clicking rhythmically against the glass-strewn floor. He raised his pistol, leveling the barrel directly between Julian’s terrified, wide eyes.

"Julian," Viktor said softly, his voice dangerously calm. "Twenty years. I trusted you with my accounts, my homes, my life. And you repay me by locking my son in a gas chamber?"

Julian laughed hysterically, blood bubbling at the corner of his lip. "Do you think killing me changes anything, Viktor? The board already has my contingency files! The police, Interpol, the tax authorities—they all have your ledger! If I die, your entire empire collapses by noon today!"

Viktor tilted his head, a cold, humorless smile touching his lips. "Let it burn."

"What?" Julian stared at him in horror.

"I built that empire from the dirt, Julian. And if the dirt is where it belongs, so be it." Viktor lowered the gun an inch, cocking the hammer. "But before I take everything back, I want you to know one thing."

Viktor looked back toward the doorway, where little Lily and Shadow stood watching.

"You spent your whole life calculating power, Julian. You bought guns, built bunkers, betrayed your friends. But you forgot the most dangerous thing in this world isn't a cartel or a crime syndicate." Viktor stepped closer, pressing the cold steel of the barrel against Julian's forehead. "It's the people you think are too small to notice."

Julian opened his mouth to scream, but before the sound could leave his throat, Viktor pulled the trigger. The muffled thud of the silenced shot echoed through the shattered room, and the traitorous advisor slumped sideways, lifeless.
