Within an hour, federal agents and international investigators had secured the bridge, carting Director Cole and his operatives away in high-security transport vans. The media blackout lifted instantly, flooding the morning news channels with breaking reports of pharmaceutical corruption and corporate conspiracy, clearing Marina’s name once and for all.
Ignacio stood leaning against the concrete barrier of the bridge, watching the first golden rays of sunlight break across the harbor water. The storm had passed, leaving behind a crisp, clean morning air that smelled faintly of salt and pine.
April stirred in her carrier, letting out a soft, sleepy yawn. She reached up with her tiny hand, her fingers brushing against Ignacio’s stubbled chin.
