Chapter 3 - The Dangerous Pact

For the next three days, Naomi lived in a gilded cage.
Luca had moved her to his private estate in Upstate New York—a massive, high-security mansion surrounded by acres of dense forest and guarded by armed men. She was given a luxurious suite, a wardrobe full of beautiful clothes tailored perfectly to her curves, and a state-of-the-art computer terminal connected to a secure server.
But she was not a guest. She was a prisoner of circumstance.
"You're staring again," Naomi said without looking up from her monitors.
Luca was leaning against the doorframe of her temporary office, holding a cup of black coffee. He had shed his formal suits for a simple black sweater with the sleeves pushed up, revealing strong, muscular forearms covered in intricate, dark tattoos.
"I am appreciating the view," Luca replied smoothly.
Naomi felt a blush creep up her neck. She was wearing a emerald green silk blouse he had provided, one that hugged her waist and accentuated her bust. Unlike the people in her office who always made her feel like she was taking up too much room, Luca looked at her as if she were the only thing in the room worth looking at.
"I’m looking at the shell companies," Naomi said, turning her eyes back to the glowing screen to hide her flushed cheeks. "The forty-eight million wasn't just a simple transfer. It’s a classic layering scheme. The money was split into micro-transactions, sent to accounts in Cyprus, Panama, and the Cayman Islands, and then re-pooled into an account owned by a company called Aegis Logistics."
Luca’s posture stiffened. "Aegis. That is a subsidiary of Ferraro Maritime."
"Yes," Naomi said, her fingers flying across the keyboard. "But here's the catch: the authorization codes used to clear these transfers didn't come from your office, Luca. They came from a terminal located inside the Southern District Federal Courthouse."
Luca walked over, standing close behind her chair. He leaned over her shoulder, his chest pressing lightly against her back. The scent of him instantly clouded her analytical mind.
"Which terminal?" he asked, his voice low in her ear.
"It’s registered to a senior prosecutor," Naomi said, her heart rate spiking from his proximity. "A man named Arthur Sterling. He's the one leading the grand jury investigation into your company."
Luca let out a dark, dry chuckle. "Sterling. The man who has spent the last five years trying to put me behind bars is the one laundering the Bratva’s money through my ships. Poetic."
"It’s more than poetic. It’s a trap," Naomi realized, her eyes widening as she looked at the data flow. "Luca... they aren't just laundering money. They are setting you up. The moment this audit is completed, the paper trail is designed to collapse, pointing directly to you. Sterling gets a promotion for taking down the great Luca Ferraro, the Bratva gets their clean money, and you go to federal prison for life."
"And where do you fit into this, mia cara?" Luca asked, his hand resting gently on the back of her chair, his fingers brushing against her hair.
"I was supposed to be the executioner," Naomi whispered, turning her head to look at him. Their faces were inches apart. "I was supposed to write the final report that sealed your fate. If I didn't find the anomaly, the trap would spring. If I did find it, Anton would kill me to keep the secret."
"Either way, you were meant to die," Luca said, his eyes darkening with a cold, protective fury.
He reached out, his hand cupping her jaw. His thumb traced the line of her cheekbone. Naomi's breath hitched, her body trembling not from fear, but from a sudden, overwhelming surge of desire. No one had ever looked at her like this—as if she were precious, powerful, and utterly intoxicating.
"I don't like it when people try to destroy what is mine," Luca whispered, his eyes dropping to her lips.
"I'm not yours, Luca," she whispered back, though her voice lacked conviction.
"We shall see, Naomi," he murmured.
Before she could reply, the heavy oak doors of the study burst open.

Marco, Luca’s right-hand man, stood there, his face pale and covered in sweat.
"Boss," Marco gasped, chest heaving. "We have a problem. The estate's outer perimeter has been breached. They've cut the power. It's the Russians. And they brought heavy artillery."
