Chapter 19 - The Horizon

Later that afternoon, after the crowds had thinned and the courtyard returned to a peaceful quiet, I rolled my wheelchair down to the garden path where a brand-new stone monument stood proudly beneath the shade of an old oak tree.

Engraved on the polished granite surface were the names: Julian Vance and The Legacy of Truth.

Rebecca walked up beside me, placing a warm hand on my shoulder. "You built something much stronger than a corporate empire, Ethan."

"I didn't build it alone," I replied softly, looking up as Sammy jogged over, holding a chessboard under his arm with a confident grin.

"Ready for our championship match, Mr. Ethan?" Sammy challenged, setting the board down on the stone bench beside the monument. "No holding back today."

"You're on, Professor Sammy," I laughed, positioning my pieces with practiced precision.

I looked around at the green grass, the bright sky, the thriving community center, and the family that had rescued me from my own darkness. I may never walk on my two legs again, but as I made my opening move on the board, I knew I was walking taller than I ever had in my entire life.
