CHAPTER ELEVEN – THE FINAL CONFRONTATION

The countdown reached six minutes.
Smoke poured through the ventilation system.
Richard and Detective Harris desperately searched the walls around the containment rooms.
"There has to be another release mechanism!"
Emily ignored the panic.
She walked to the center of the corridor.
Her eyes scanned every detail.
Then she noticed it.
A faded Hawthorne family crest carved into the concrete floor.
Exactly where she remembered standing decades earlier.
She pressed the center of the emblem.
A hidden compartment opened beneath the floor.
Inside was a mechanical override lever.
"No way..." Detective Harris whispered.
Emily pulled it with all her strength.
The locking system disengaged.
All three glass doors slid open simultaneously.
The triplets ran straight into Richard's arms.
He held them tightly, tears streaming down his face.
"I'm never letting you go again."
But the reunion lasted only seconds.
A slow clap echoed through the collapsing corridor.
Charles stepped forward, carrying a small black case.
"You always were your father's greatest weakness, Richard."
Richard faced him.
"It's over."
Charles smiled.
"No."
He opened the case.
Inside were decades of evidence.
Financial crimes.
Political bribery.
Corporate blackmail.
Records capable of destroying powerful people across the country.
"I built an empire larger than Hawthorne Technologies."
"You built it on fear," Emily replied.
Charles laughed.
"Fear lasts longer than loyalty."
He slowly backed toward an emergency exit.
Before leaving, he looked at Liam.
"The world will come looking for you someday."
Then he disappeared into the smoke.
Detective Harris ordered officers to pursue him.
Moments later, a deafening explosion shook the underground facility.
The escape tunnel collapsed.
May you like
Charles Hawthorne vanished beneath tons of concrete.
No body was ever recovered.
