Chapter 7 - THE FINAL STAND IN THE BOARDROOM

Ten minutes later, the massive oak doors of the fifty-floor executive boardroom flew open with a deafening bang.
Inside, Jonathan Vance was standing at the head of the polished conference table, pouring himself a glass of celebratory champagne, while three senior board members murmured anxiously among themselves.
"Gentlemen," Jonathan announced, raising his glass. "The transition is complete. Effective immediately—"
"Effective immediately, you're all under citizen's arrest for treason, corporate fraud, and conspiracy," a cold, resonant voice echoed from the doorway.
Jonathan froze. The glass slipped from his fingers, shattering into a thousand glittering shards against the hardwood floor.
Standing in the doorway was Adrian Cole. His suit was slightly rumpled, his shoulder bruised, but his posture was that of an undisputed king reclaiming his throne. Standing right beside him was Martha, wearing her faded blue janitor's uniform with absolute dignity, and Chloe, carrying a heavy vintage copper wire-spool terminal.
"How... how are you out of the penthouse?" Jonathan stammered, his face turning an unhealthy shade of pale green. "The security detail—"
"Your guards were loyal to the paycheck, Jonathan. I just matched their salary with a bonus they couldn't refuse," a voice murmured from the back.
From the shadows stepped the head of security, calmly removing his earpiece and tossing it onto the conference table.
Jonathan backed away, his eyes darting toward the windows. "You can't do this! The board voted! The legal trust—"
"The legal trust was established using funds embezzled from my mother's settlement in 1994," Adrian interrupted, stepping forward with slow, heavy strides. "Which means under federal corporate law, every asset, every share, and every building purchased with those funds reverts directly to the primary biological heir of the rightful beneficiary."
Adrian slammed a thick stack of original, un-redacted documents onto the table—documents retrieved directly from the analog panic room wired straight to the federal courts.
"And thanks to the analog copper lines my mother just hooked up," Adrian continued, a cold smile touching his lips, "the Department of Justice didn't receive your forged confession. They received a live, unedited audio recording of every single word you, Charles, and my adoptive father spoke in this room over the last thirty-two years."
Heavy footsteps echoed from the hallway outside. Before Jonathan could reach the door, federal agents in tactical gear flooded the boardroom, their badges flashing under the bright chandeliers.
"Jonathan Vance, you're under arrest for corporate conspiracy, kidnapping, and fraud," the lead federal agent commanded, slapping steel handcuffs onto Jonathan’s wrists.

As Jonathan was dragged out of the room, kicking and screaming in furious denial, the remaining board members slumped into their leather chairs in utter defeat.
Adrian didn't even look at them. He turned his attention entirely to the woman standing beside him.
