Chapter 8 - THE DAWN OF A NEW ERA

The evening sun dipped below the Chicago skyline, painting the glass towers in hues of gold, amber, and deep violet.

Inside the executive office on the top floor of Cole Meridian Tower, the atmosphere was quiet, peaceful, and entirely transformed. The heavy corporate mahogany furniture remained, but the oppressive weight of deceit that had hung over the room for three decades was gone.

Martha sat in the large leather executive chair, looking out over the sprawling city lights. She still wore her faded blue uniform jacket, but across her shoulders draped Adrian’s expensive cashmere coat.

Adrian stood beside her, resting his hand gently on the back of the chair.

"You don't have to clean floors ever again, Mom," Adrian said softly, a gentle smile on his face. "The tower is yours. The company is yours. We can do whatever you want."

Martha turned her head, looking up at her son with eyes full of profound love and pride. She reached out, her scarred, calloused fingers gently touching his cheek.

"I don't need a tower, Adrian," she whispered, her voice thick with emotion. "I spent thirty-two years just wishing I could hold my little boy one more time. All the money in the world couldn't buy that back."

Adrian leaned down, resting his head against her shoulder just like he used to do when he was four years old—before the fire, before the foster homes, before the lies.

For the first time in thirty-two years, the little boy from Detroit was finally home.

Outside, the lights of the city twinkled like a million distant stars, but inside the Cole Meridian Tower, the only light that mattered was the quiet, unbreakable bond between a mother and the son who never gave up looking for her.
