Chapter 7 - THE RECKONING AT VALE BIOCORP

Three days later, the financial world experienced a tectonic shock.

VALE BIOCORP SHARES PLUNGE 65% AMID MASSIVE FRAUD AND SURGICAL SCANDAL INVESTIGATION.

The headlines blared across every financial terminal from Wall Street to Tokyo. Federal agents raided the corporate headquarters, hauling away truckloads of encrypted hard drives, internal memos, and experimental hardware logs. Dr. Harrison Vance was arrested at a private airstrip trying to board a flight to the Cayman Islands, carrying three passports and millions in bearer bonds.

Marcus Thorne’s legal defense crumbled within forty-eight hours when Adrian’s legal team released the unedited audio recordings of the board meetings discussing the silent containment protocol.

Inside the sprawling penthouse office of Vale BioCorp, the dust was finally beginning to settle. The board of directors had been entirely dismantled, replaced by court-appointed trustees and Adrian’s loyal allies.

I was sitting behind a sleek mahogany desk that was entirely too big for me, looking at a stack of legal documents. I had tried to resign three times already. Adrian had rejected every single letter, ripping them up without opening them.

The heavy oak door swung open, and Adrian walked in, carrying two cups of black coffee. He set one down in front of me before leaning against the edge of the desk, looking tired but lighter, as if a mountain had been lifted off his chest.

“The federal prosecutor called an hour ago,” Adrian said, blowing gently across the steaming surface of his cup. “Finch agreed to a full confession in exchange for a reduced sentence. Vance is facing forty years for corporate endangerment and illegal neurological experimentation on a minor. And the foundation is officially being restructured under a new mandate.”

“And the media?” I asked, looking up from the contract.

“They’re calling it the corporate miracle,” Adrian smiled faintly, a genuine, warm expression that made him look ten years younger. “They’re praising the anonymous tipster who exposed the inner ring of Vale BioCorp. Though none of them know it was a certain stubborn housekeeper who refused to stay in her lane.”

I smiled back, taking a small sip of the coffee. “I was a maid, Mr. Vale. Remember? I’m supposed to clean up messes, not expose multi-billion-dollar criminal conspiracies.”

“You were never just a maid, Elena,” Adrian said, his voice dropping an octave, carrying a warmth that made my heart skip an unexpected beat. “You were the only person in this entire city who actually saw my son for who he was.”
