Chapter 9 - THE UNEXPECTED ENDING

Six months later, the headlines about Vale BioCorp had faded from the front pages, replaced by stories of its complete restructuring into a humanitarian medical research foundation focused on pediatric sensory restoration.
The trial of Dr. Vance and Marcus Thorne concluded with maximum federal sentences, sealing the dark chapter of corporate greed forever.
Inside the grand courtyard of the Vale estate, the air was sweet with the scent of blooming spring jasmine. A grand piano sat near the open terrace doors, its keys flashing brightly in the afternoon sun.
Milo sat on the piano bench, his small fingers dancing across the ivory keys, playing a simple, beautiful melody he had learned by listening to the rain, the wind, and the laughter of the world he had finally reclaimed.
I stood on the stone balcony, leaning against the wrought-iron railing, watching him from above.
A pair of strong, familiar arms wrapped around my waist from behind, pulling me gently back against a warm chest. Adrian rested his chin on my shoulder, breathing in the scent of my hair, his arms holding me secure against the uncertainties of the world.
“You realize,” Adrian whispered playfully into my ear, “that as the co-director of the Vale Foundation and the most feared negotiator in the household, you are vastly overqualified to be a maid.”
I leaned back into his embrace, smiling as I reached up to touch his hand, feeling the solid, unbreakable rhythm of his pulse.

“Good thing,” I whispered back, watching Milo hit a triumphant final chord on the piano that echoed out into the open sky, “because I never planned on leaving.”
And as the music drifted up into the afternoon breeze, carrying the sound of a little boy’s bright, unfiltered laughter across the estate, I knew that the silence was gone forever—replaced by a future we had fought through fire to build together.
