Chapter 10 - A NEW DAWN AT MERCER MANORThree months later, the twenty-two rooms of the Greenwich estate no longer echoed with empty silence.

The Steinway piano in the parlor was finally playing again, its joyful melodies spilling out through open windows into the sunlit gardens. The nursery on the second floor—once locked and forbidden—was now painted in vibrant pastel colors, filled with the sound of children's laughter and tiny footsteps running across the hardwood floors.

Down in the main foyer, the marble floors gleamed in the morning sun.

Julian Mercer sat at the base of the grand staircase, wearing a comfortable cashmere sweater instead of his usual rigid corporate suit. He was building a towering block castle with a very determined three-year-old architect wearing yellow sneakers.

“No, Mr. Julian! The tall tower goes in the middle!” Nora giggled, placing a red block on top of the leaning structure.

“My apologies, boss,” Julian smiled, his eyes warm and completely transformed from the cold CEO he used to be.

Footsteps approached from the kitchen. Emma walked in, carrying a tray of fresh pastries and coffee, her hair down in soft waves, a genuine, radiant peace resting on her face.

She stopped beside Julian, setting the tray down on a small side table. Julian reached out, catching her hand and pulling her down beside him on the Persian rug.

Emma leaned her head against his shoulder, watching as Nora proudly placed a small plastic flag on top of her block castle.

“Are you ready for the board meeting this morning?” Emma asked softly, tracing the wedding band that had finally been returned to her finger.

Julian kissed the top of her head, smiling as he looked around his sun-drenched home.

“Let them wait,” Julian whispered, wrapping one arm around his wife and the other around his daughter. “For the first time in my life, I’m exactly where I belong.”
