Chapter 8 - THE TRAP IS SPRUNGMarcus chuckled, though a flicker of unease crossed his eyes. “You’re in no position to bargain, Julian. Sign the papers, or lose everything—again.”

Julian didn't reach for the manila folder. Instead, he raised his right hand and slowly snapped his fingers.

Click.

The sharp sound echoed across the twelve acres of the Greenwich estate. Instantly, every exterior light on the massive twenty-two-room mansion flashed from dim yellow to blinding stadium white.

From the treeline, from the service drive, and from the roof of the cottage, red laser dots suddenly appeared on the chests of Marcus’s bodyguards.

Before Marcus could react, the front gates of the estate swung open with a loud metallic crash. A convoy of unmarked federal vehicles and state police cruisers swarmed the property, their sirens cutting through the night.

Marcus spun around, his face draining of color. “What is this?!”

Julian stepped forward, towering over his uncle with the absolute authority of a man who had built an empire from the ashes.

“Did you really think I spent two years sitting in that mansion doing nothing, Marcus?” Julian’s voice boomed across the courtyard. “Did you really think my private security team didn't track every offshore account, every forged death certificate, and every wire transfer authorized by my father’s estate?”

Marcus lunged for his pocket, reaching for a burner phone, but two federal agents materialized from the shadows, pinning his arms behind his back and slamming him against the side of the SUV.

“Federal Securities and Exchange Commission, along with the Connecticut State Police,” one of the agents announced, flashing a badge directly in Marcus’s terrified face. “Marcus Vance, you are under arrest for corporate espionage, conspiracy to commit murder, and financial fraud.”

As Marcus was handcuffed and shoved into the back of a cruiser, he stared back at Julian with pure hatred.

“You can't prove my father ordered the bridge crash!” Marcus screamed as the door slammed shut.

“You just did,” Julian replied coldly as the police convoy sped away into the night.
