Chapter 7 - GENEVA’S SHADOW AND THE UNTHINKABLE REUNION

The private jet touched down on the rain-slicked tarmac of Geneva International Airport with a smooth, professional thud. The howling Swiss wind rattled the cabin windows, but inside, the atmosphere was thick with tension.

Escorted by four elite security guards, Katherine and Chloe descended the mobile staircase into the freezing European night. Waiting beside a sleek black bulletproof Maybach was a tall, silver-haired man in a heavy cashmere trench coat. His face was weathered by decades of exile, but his eyes—piercing, cold, and unmistakably familiar—locked onto Katherine the moment she stepped onto the ground.

Arthur Vance.

The man who was supposed to be dead for twenty years. The man who had helped orchestrate the destruction of Elena’s life two decades ago.

"Elena," Arthur said, his voice deep, raspy, and devoid of fear. He spread his arms wide, as if greeting a long-lost sister. "Or should I call you Katherine Sterling now? You know, I always knew you were survivor. But becoming a global titan just to crush my incompetent niece? That’s almost poetic."

Katherine stepped forward, her heels clicking rhythmically against the wet asphalt. Chloe stood close behind her, clutching her mother’s trench coat sleeve, staring at the legendary ghost standing before them.

"You hid in Geneva for twenty years, Arthur," Katherine said, her voice a low, dangerous purr. "You let your brother take the fall, you faked your death, and you watched from your Swiss chalet while my husband drowned under the Brooklyn Bridge. Did you really think you were safe behind your Swiss bank accounts?"

Arthur chuckled, pulling out a silver cigar case and lighting a thick Cuban cigar despite the pouring rain. "Safe? Elena, I never needed a hiding place. Because I wasn't running from you... I was waiting for you."

Katherine stopped dead in her tracks. Her eyes narrowed. "What are you talking about?"

Arthur took a slow drag of his cigar, exhaling a thick cloud of grey smoke into the cold night air. "Marcus wasn't the only traitor in your inner circle, my dear. Look at the data files you brought with you on your tablet. Look at the asset transfer codes you authorized tonight."

A cold sweat suddenly gripped Katherine’s spine. She reached into her burgundy blazer, pulled out her encrypted tablet, and tapped the screen.

WARNING: SYSTEM OVERRIDE. ALL STERLING GLOBAL ASSETS TRANSFERRED TO VANCE-GENEVA HOLDINGS.

ACCESS DENIED.

Katherine’s breath caught. She looked up at Arthur in stunned disbelief. "You... you hacked my primary servers through the flight deck network while we were in the air?"

"Clever girl," Arthur smiled, his eyes gleaming with triumphant malice. "You spent twenty years building an empire just to reclaim what was yours. But you forgot one fundamental rule of high-stakes finance, Elena: He who has the most leverage owns the world. Every single dollar you used to buy out Victoria’s estate? It came from a liquidity pool backed by my offshore syndicate. You didn't destroy my family, Elena. You consolidated our empire into your name, and now... I legally own Sterling Global."

Chloe gasped, her hands flying to her mouth. "Mom... is that true?"

For the first time in twenty years, Katherine Sterling felt the icy grip of defeat squeezing her chest. She had outsmarted Victoria, she had crushed Marcus, but she had walked directly into Arthur’s ultimate, decades-long trap.
