Chapter 3 - The Confrontation

Breakfast was a battlefield. Alexander sat at the head of a twenty-foot dining table. Ethan sat at the end, his crutches leaned against the chair.
"I know who you are, Sophia," Alexander said, dropping the file onto the table with a thud.
The staff froze. Sophia was pouring orange juice. She didn't flinch.
"My father was a good man," she said, her voice echoing in the vast room. "He was also a man who believed that medicine shouldn't be a luxury for the elite. He lost his license because he couldn't pay the legal fees to fight your company’s lawyers."
"And you came here for revenge?" Alexander stood up, his chair scraping violently against the floor.
"I came here because I needed a job to pay for my sister’s surgery," Sophia said, turning to face him fully. "But when I saw Ethan—this boy who was being treated like a museum exhibit instead of a human—I stayed for him. You think you've given him everything? You’ve given him a prison with gold-plated bars."
Ethan looked between them, his eyes filling with tears. "Stop it!" he cried. "Tia Sophia isn't bad! She’s the only one who talks to me!"

Alexander reached out to touch his son, but Ethan flinched away. That movement shattered Alexander.
"Pack your bags," Alexander whispered, his voice trembling. "You're fired."
