Chapter 2 - THE DAY THE BILLIONAIRE BECAME A BEGGAR 🔥

Ethan Carter looked at his mother, the woman who had given him life but possessed not a single drop of human warmth. Her pearls caught the morning light, gleaming like tiny, polished teeth. Behind her, the two police officers stood like statues, and the attorney, Richard Vance, held the leather folder like a executioner’s axe.
"I am waiting, Ethan," Margaret hissed, her voice dripping with venomous certainty. "Choose. Your legacy, your father's bloodline, your multi-billion-dollar throne... or these two pieces of street trash."
Sophie and Lily clung to Ethan’s legs, their tiny fingers digging into the expensive fabric of his trousers. Lily’s silent tears soaked into his clothes. Ethan felt a profound, tectonic shift inside his soul. For thirty-two years, he had lived to please the Carter name. He had broken his back, sacrificed his sleep, and buried his grief over his late wife, Emily, all to keep the empire afloat.
Slowly, Ethan stood up to his full height. He looked down at his mother.
"Take it," Ethan said, his voice terrifyingly calm.
Margaret blinked, her perfect composure slipping for a fraction of a second. "What did you say?"
"Take it all," Ethan repeated, stepping forward, shielding the twins behind his broad frame. "The company. The bank accounts. The mansion. The inheritance. Strip me of it all. Because if an empire requires me to step over starving children to keep it, then that empire is already hollow, and so are you."
Margaret’s face contorted into something monstrous. "You fool! You will be begging on the streets by sunset! Richard, execute the emergency clause. Freeze everything. Evict him from this property immediately!"
The attorney stepped forward, his eyes cold. "Mr. Carter, by order of the board and the matriarchal trust, your executive powers are suspended. Your personal and corporate accounts are locked. You have ten minutes to clear the premises."
Maria, the housekeeper, stepped forward, her hands trembling but her voice fierce. "If Ethan goes, I go too. And I will gladly tell the papers what kind of monster you are, Madam Margaret."
Ten minutes later, the iron gates of the Beverly Hills mansion slammed shut behind them. Ethan Carter, who had woken up as one of the most powerful men in the country, was now standing on the pavement with a single duffel bag, a loyal housekeeper, and two traumatized five-year-old girls. His black SUV had been repossessed on the spot.
They took a cheap taxi to a cramped, two-bedroom apartment in a forgotten corner of Los Angeles—a property Ethan had bought years ago under a shell company that his mother hadn't yet discovered.
As night fell, Maria managed to cook a simple meal of rice and beans. Sophie and Lily sat on the faded sofa, wrapped in a cheap blanket Ethan had bought at a convenience store. For the first time in six years, Ethan didn't look at a stock ticker. He sat on the floor, teaching the girls how to draw. For a few hours, the world was quiet.
But peace never lasts in the empire of the Carters.
At midnight, a heavy knock echoed through the thin wooden door. Ethan opened it, expecting his mother’s thugs. Instead, he found a plain manila envelope resting on the welcome mat. No return address.

Inside was a document that made Ethan's heart stop. It was a certified DNA report, dated three days ago.
💥 THE HOOK: Ethan’s eyes scanned the genetic matching data at the bottom of the page. The blood profiles of Sophie and Lily didn't belong to strangers. The report stated they shared a 99.9% maternal DNA match with someone Ethan knew intimately—his deceased wife, Emily.
