Chapter 6 - THE FALL OF THE MATRIARCH 🚒

The courtroom erupted into total chaos. Flashes went off like explosions. The judge banged his gavel repeatedly, shouting for order, but the damage was done. Margaret’s face turned from pale white to a deep, furious crimson.
Within minutes, federal agents entered the courtroom, presenting a warrant for Margaret Carter’s arrest on charges of human trafficking, conspiracy to commit murder, and corporate fraud.
As the handcuffs clicked around Margaret’s manicured wrists, she locked eyes with Ethan. There was no fear in her eyes—only a terrifying, chaotic madness.
"You think you've won, Ethan?" she hissed, her voice loud enough for the reporters to catch. "You think you can take my empire and live happily ever after with those little burdens? If I cannot have the Carter legacy, no one will. I have set the fuse, Ethan. Enjoy your ashes."
Before Ethan could process her words, his phone vibrated violently in his pocket. It was an automated alert from the security system of the old Carter Industries headquarters—the massive skyscraper downtown where all the company's historical archives, patents, and servers were housed.
A text message from an unknown number followed: The building is locked down. The twins are inside.
Ethan’s heart dropped into his stomach. He spun around. He looked at Maria, who was sitting in the back row with the girls. But the seats were empty. In the chaos of Sarah Jenkins' entrance, someone had distracted Maria, and two men in security uniforms had quietly escorted the twins out of the building.
Ethan didn't wait for the police. He sprinted out of the courtroom, down the marble steps, and into the crowded streets of Los Angeles.
By the time he arrived at the Carter Industries skyscraper, the building was already engulfed in thick, black smoke. The fire alarms screamed into the sky. The glass facade was shattering from the extreme heat inside. The automated lockdown system had sealed all the reinforced steel doors, trapping anyone inside.
The fire chief grabbed Ethan as he tried to rush the barricade. "Sir, you can't go in there! The structure is compromised, and the automated halon gas suppression system has failed, locking the oxygen out of the upper floors!"
"My daughters are in there!" Ethan screamed, tearing himself away from the chief's grip.

He grabbed a heavy iron fire ax from a nearby emergency truck, smashed the glass of a side service entrance, and threw himself into the burning, suffocating darkness of the empire he had once loved.
💥 THE HOOK: Navigating through the blinding smoke and roaring flames, Ethan made it to the top floor executive suite. He found Sophie and Lily trapped inside a reinforced glass server room, crying out for him as the fire licked at the walls. But as he swung the ax to shatter the glass, a shadow loomed behind him. Richard Vance stood there, holding a loaded gun, his face blistered by the heat. "Your mother paid me to make sure none of you leave this building alive, Ethan. It's over."
