Chapter 3 - THE HIGH-STAKES CONSPIRACY

Hook: The prison walls couldn't contain her, because she owned the prison.

While Julian faced a deadly standoff in his mansion, Victoria sat in a high-security holding cell at the metropolitan penitentiary. Yet, she didn't look like a prisoner. She sat elegantly on the metal bench, her legs crossed, calmly filing her nails with a contraband emery board.

The heavy iron door groaned open. A guard stepped inside, but instead of ordering her to her feet, he stood at attention. Behind him walked a man in an expensive Italian suit—Damien Vance, the billionaire CEO of Vance Global and Victoria’s estranged brother.

"You messed up, Victoria," Damien said, tossing a newspaper with her face on the front page onto the concrete floor. "A maid? You let a common maid ruin a three-billion-dollar merger?"

Victoria didn't look up from her nails. "Elena was a variable I didn't account for. She was too quiet, too invisible. But the plan isn't ruined. Julian is currently being dealt with by Arthur."

Damien leaned against the cell wall, lighting a cigarette despite the prominent 'No Smoking' sign. "Arthur is a liability. He's emotional. If Julian survives tonight, the entire paper trail leads back to us. The board of Sterling Enterprises is already panicking. We need Julian’s signature on the transfer documents before the market opens tomorrow morning."

"Then get me out of here," Victoria said, finally looking up, her eyes gleaming with predatory intelligence. "The judge is on our payroll, isn't he?"

"Bail has already been arranged through a shell company," Damien replied, tossing a set of civilian clothes onto the bench. "You have three hours to get to the Sterling estate and finish what you started. If Julian is still breathing by sunrise, I will personally ensure you take the fall for everything."

Meanwhile, back at the mansion, the tension was palpable. Arthur leveled the revolver at Julian’s chest. "Sign the digital transfer of ownership, Julian. If you do, I’ll ensure Elena here gets a quick, painless departure. If you don't, I will make her suffer right in front of you."

Elena looked at Julian, terror in her eyes, but she shook her head. "Don't sign it, Mr. Sterling! If you sign it, he kills us both anyway!"

Julian calculated his options. He was a master strategist in the boardroom, but this was a game of life and death. He slowly reached for the digital tablet Arthur had placed on the desk. "Alright, Arthur. You want the empire? It's yours."

As Julian extended his hand to take the stylus, he deliberately knocked over a heavy crystal decanter of whiskey, splashing the liquid directly into Arthur’s face.

BANG!

The gun discharged, the bullet shattering a priceless oil painting behind Julian. In the chaos, Elena lunged forward, grabbing a heavy brass desk lamp and swinging it with all her might into the side of Arthur's knee. A sickening crack echoed through the room as Arthur screamed in agony, collapsing to the floor.

Julian didn't hesitate. He tackled the first dark-suited guard, slamming his head against the marble fireplace. But the second guard drew his weapon, aiming directly at Julian’s exposed back.
