Chapter 5 - THE SHOWDOWN AT THE ESTATE

Hook: A rain of glass, a storm of bullets, and a bride who refuses to die.

The torrential rain outside matched the storm inside the Sterling estate. The grand mansion, once a symbol of wealth and prestige, had become a tactical war zone. Victoria walked through the shattered front doors, her white wedding dress now soaked in mud and rain, a sleek submachine gun held firmly in her hands. She no longer looked like a bride; she looked like an angel of death.

"Find them," Victoria ordered her mercenaries. "Kill the maid, kill Seraphina’s people, but leave Julian alive long enough to access his terminal."

From the top of the grand spiral staircase, Julian appeared in the dim light. "Looking for me, Victoria?"

Victoria immediately raised her weapon and fired a burst. The bullets chewed through the wooden banister, sending splinters flying. Julian dove behind a marble pillar as Seraphina’s operatives returned fire from the upper balconies. The ballroom became an echo chamber of gunfire and shattering crystal as the giant chandeliers were shot out, plunging the room into a chaotic dance of muzzle flashes.

Elena hid in the security server room, her fingers flying across the keyboard. Under Seraphina’s remote guidance, she was trying to lock down the estate’s main grid to trap Victoria’s forces.

"Come on, come on..." Elena whispered, watching the progress bar load.

Suddenly, the door to the server room was kicked open. Damien Vance stepped inside, a cold, calculated smile on his face. "Well, well. The heroic little maid. You really caused a lot of trouble for a girl who gets paid minimum wage."

Elena backed away against the server racks. "Your sister is insane, and you're no better. The police know everything!"

"The police only know what we allow them to know," Damien laughed, drawing a silenced pistol. "By tomorrow morning, the narrative will be that Julian went mad, killed his guests, and committed suicide. You’re just a tragic casualty of his breakdown."

Before Damien could fire, Elena grabbed a heavy fire extinguisher from the wall and sprayed it directly into his face. The blinding chemical cloud choked him, causing his shots to go wild. Elena lunged forward, slamming the heavy metal canister against his wrist, forcing him to drop the gun. She scrambled out of the room, sprinting toward the main ballroom.

In the ballroom, the battle had reached a bloody climax. Seraphina had neutralized most of Victoria’s mercenaries, but Victoria had pinned Julian down near the shattered altar where their wedding had begun.

Victoria walked slowly toward the pillar where Julian was hiding, her boots crunching on the glass. "You were always too soft, Julian. You thought I loved you? I hated every second I spent pretending to be your doting fiancee. Your wealth belongs to someone who knows how to use it."

She stepped around the pillar, aiming her weapon directly at Julian's head. "Goodbye, my love."

BANG!

A shot echoed, but it didn't come from Victoria's gun. Victoria gasped, dropping her weapon as a bullet pierced her shoulder. She spun around to see Elena standing at the entrance of the ballroom, holding a discarded security pistol with both hands, her body shaking violently.

"Get away from him!" Elena screamed.
