Chapter 6 - THE ARRESTBefore Vanessa could turn toward the side exit, two federal marshals in tactical gear stepped out from the gallery rows, blocking her path.
"Vanessa Crane, you are under arrest for grand larceny, wire fraud, conspiracy to commit murder, and child abandonment," the lead marshal announced, snapping heavy steel handcuffs around her wrists.
"No! No, you can't touch me! Do you know who I am?!" Vanessa thralled wildly, screaming obscenities as the officers dragged her away from the podium. Her expensive designer handbag hit the floor, spilling compacts and lipstick across the aisle.
As the courtroom doors slammed shut behind her, a profound, heavy silence settled over the room.

Judge Sterling sank slowly into his leather chair, staring blankly at the wall as marshals approached the bench to place him under federal investigation as well.
Adrian Vale didn't blink. He closed his briefcase, turned around, and walked out of the courtroom without looking back.
