Chapter 7 - THE NEW GUARDIANTwo weeks later, the sunlight streamed through the arched windows of Adrian Vale’s Greenwich estate library.

Noah and Nora sat at a large mahogany table, happily sketching pictures with a massive set of colored pencils Adrian had bought them. The hollow, haunted look in Noah’s eyes had finally begun to fade, replaced by the bright, curious spark of an eleven-year-old boy.

The heavy oak door opened softly, and Adrian walked in, holding a freshly signed legal document bearing the official seal of the New York Supreme Court.

He walked over to the table and knelt down beside Noah’s chair.

"Noah, Nora," Adrian said gently. "I have something to show you."

Noah looked up, laying down his pencil. "What is it, Mr. Vale?"

"Call me Adrian," he smiled warmly. He handed the document to Noah. "This is the permanent guardianship decree. The courts have officially stripped Vanessa of all legal rights. The Mercer estate is fully secured in a blind trust managed by my foundation... for you and your sister."

Nora gasped, covering her mouth with her hands. "Does that mean... we don't have to run anymore?"

"You never have to run again," Adrian said, his voice thick with emotion. "You are home."

Noah stared at the paper, then slowly looked up at Adrian. For the first time since they had met at Gate 42, the boy smiled—a bright, genuine, unburdened smile.

He threw his arms around Adrian’s neck, burying his face against his shoulder. Adrian wrapped his arms tightly around the boy, feeling the ghosts of his own childhood finally put to rest.
