CHAPTER 6 – Locker 317 Was Never Meant to Be Opened

The next morning, Emily and Daniel arrived at the abandoned wing of Union Station just before sunrise.

Locker 317 stood at the end of a deserted hallway, covered in dust and cobwebs.

Emily's hands trembled as she pulled the brass key from her pocket.

"This key has been waiting for us for twenty-four years," she whispered.

Daniel looked around nervously.

"Or for someone else."

The old lock clicked open.

Inside wasn't money.

It wasn't jewelry.

It was a weathered leather briefcase wrapped in a firefighter's jacket.

On the sleeve was a faded name tag.

JAMES CARTER.

Emily's father.

Tears filled her eyes as she carefully opened the case.

Inside were dozens of cassette tapes, photographs, and a small video camera.

Beneath them lay a sealed envelope with one sentence written across the front.

"If you're reading this... I failed to stop them."

Emily broke the seal.

Her father's handwritten letter revealed the unimaginable truth.

"The apartment fire wasn't an accident. It was ordered to destroy evidence against a powerful group laundering millions through fraudulent building contracts. Richard Hale helped cover it up because they threatened his family. I refused. They made me the villain."

Daniel's breathing became heavy.

"So your father was trying to expose corruption... not start a fire."

Emily nodded through tears.

Then Daniel pressed PLAY on one of the old cassette tapes.

Static filled the room.

A man's voice slowly emerged.

"We have one survivor... the little boy. What do we do?"

Another voice answered coldly.

"Leave him alive."

Daniel froze.

He knew that voice.

It belonged to someone he had trusted for years.

His own fire department captain.

At that exact moment, footsteps echoed through the empty station.

Someone was outside the locker room.

A shadow appeared beneath the door.

Then came a slow, mocking clap.

"Congratulations," the stranger said.

"You've finally found the truth..."

May you like

A pistol clicked.

"But you'll never leave here alive."
