I sat comfortably in the leather-seated towncar, watching the glittering Chicago skyline pass by outside the tinted window. My phone was buzzing nonstop with notifications—news alerts, missed calls from trembling relatives of the Vance family, and messages of congratulations from my legal team.
I silenced the phone and turned my attention to the back seat.
Inside her soft, secure bassinet, baby Lily stirred softly, letting out a tiny, contented yawn. Her little fist remained tucked neatly beneath her chin, warm and peaceful.
I reached out, gently stroking her soft cheek with my fingertip.
