The private study on the sixty-eighth floor of Vale Tower looked entirely different. The dark, oppressive velvet and obsidian furniture were gone, replaced by warm oak shelving, family photographs, and bright natural light pouring through crystal-clear glass.
Sebastian Vale sat at his desk, signing off on the final philanthropic grants for the Vale Foundation—an organization dedicated to supporting single mothers and displaced families, established under Maya’s direct supervision.
The door opened quietly.
A fourteen-year-old boy with sharp gray eyes and messy dark hair walked in, holding a science fair trophy.
“Dad,” Noah announced proudly, setting the gold-plated cup on the desk. “First place in regional physics.”
Sebastian looked up, a proud smile breaking across his face. He stood up and ruffled his son’s hair. “I knew you had it in you, captain. Go tell your mom and your brother and sister downstairs; she’s making those lemon tarts you guys love.”
As Noah raced back out the door, shouting for Ivy and Owen, Sebastian walked over to the floor-to-ceiling window.
Down below, the Manhattan skyline hummed with life. Sirens wailed in the distance, and the yellow cabs crawled like ants across the asphalt grid. It was the same ruthless, unforgiving city that had tried to tear his family apart a decade ago.
The private elevator chime sounded behind him.
Maya stepped into the office, carrying two mugs of coffee. She walked up behind him, wrapping her arms around his waist and resting her cheek against his back.
“You’re working too late again, Mr. Vale,” she murmured playfully.
Sebastian turned around in her embrace, resting his hands on her hips, looking down into the warm brown eyes that had anchored his soul through every storm.
