Chapter 9 - A NEW VOWUnder the Hudson Valley Autumn SkyThe autumn leaves had turned to brilliant shades of gold and amber across the Hudson Valley vineyards.

There were no media cameras. No glittering society guests in designer gowns. There was only the gentle rustle of the wind through the grapevines, the laughter of three four-year-olds running through the grass with a golden retriever puppy, and a small wooden arbor draped in white roses.

Maya stood at the altar wearing a simple, elegant ivory dress that caught the afternoon sunlight. Her hair was tied back with a silk ribbon, and her smile radiated a pure, unburdened joy that no amount of money could ever buy.

Sebastian stood waiting for her, dressed in a sharp navy suit, his gray eyes shining with unshed tears.

As Maya walked down the grassy aisle—escorted not by a corrupt family patriarch, but flanked by Noah, Ivy, and Owen, who proudly carried flower petals in little wooden baskets—the weight of the past four years finally dissolved into the autumn air.

“You look beautiful,” Sebastian whispered as she reached him.

“You look like you survived a war,” Maya teased softly.

“I did,” Sebastian smiled, taking her hands in his. “And I won.”

The justice of the peace—a warm local judge who knew nothing of Wall Street boardrooms or corporate syndicates—smiled and nodded.

“We are gathered here today,” the judge began, “not to build an empire, but to join a family.”

As Sebastian slid a simple platinum band onto Maya’s finger, Owen tugged at his trouser leg. Sebastian knelt down, picking up his son with one arm while keeping his other hand locked with Maya’s.

“Dad,” Owen whispered loudly, pointing up at the sky. “Look! A hawk!”

Sebastian looked up, smiling as a magnificent red-tailed hawk soared effortlessly above the vineyard, riding the autumn currents into the open, endless sky.

“Yeah, buddy,” Sebastian whispered, kissing Maya’s forehead as his children laughed around them. “We’re flying free.”
