Chapter 8 - THE ASHES OF THE DYNASTYThe Fall of the PatriarchThree weeks later, the front page of the Wall Street Journal carried a headline that shook the global financial community to its core:

VALE EMPIRE RESTRUCTURED: PATRIARCH ARTHUR VALE STEPPS DOWN AMID FEDERAL CORRUPTION PROBE; SEBASTIAN VALE ASSUMES TOTAL CONTROL.
Inside the sunlit library of the Hudson Valley estate, Arthur Vale sat in a leather armchair by the roaring stone fireplace. He looked smaller now—stripped of his titles, his corporate jets, and the absolute authority he had wielded like a tyrant for over half a century.
The heavy oak door opened, and Sebastian walked in. He wasn’t wearing his usual armor of bespoke suits; he wore a simple cashmere sweater, his sleeves rolled up.
Arthur didn’t look up from his fireplace. “You destroyed everything I built in fifty years, boy.”
“No, Grandfather,” Sebastian said, pouring two glasses of scotch and placing one on the side table next to the old man. “You built an empire on lies, paranoia, and cruelty. I just recycled the trash.”
Arthur finally turned his head, his cold blue eyes locking onto Sebastian’s. “You think a woman and three children will save you? The Vale name is built on blood and dominance, not domestic sentimentality.”
“The Vale name is whatever I say it is now,” Sebastian replied evenly. “And starting today, nobody in this family ever dictates who I love or how I live again.”
Sebastian turned and walked toward the door, pausing with his hand on the brass knob.

“By the way,” Sebastian added without looking back. “The children send their regards. They’re picking out pumpkins in the orchard with their mother.”
The old man didn’t answer. He simply stared back into the flames as the door clicked shut behind the new master of the house.
