Chapter 2 - THE UNRAVELING OF A LIE"Julian, have you completely lost your mind?!"

Victoria shrieked, breaking the agonizing spell that had frozen the room. She lunged forward, grabbing Julian’s shoulder with manicured claws, trying to wrench him back to his feet.

"Are you seriously crouching down in the dirt for a common maid and her thieving brat? Look at me, Julian! We are hosting the engagement gala for the century in two weeks! The board of directors is downstairs, the press is outside waiting for our official portrait, and you’re acting like a lunatic over a piece of hired help!"

Julian didn't flinch. He didn't even blink. Slowly, agonizingly, he raised his hand and gently brushed Victoria’s grip off his shoulder as if she were nothing more than an annoying insect.

He stood up, towering over Victoria, his shadow completely swallowing her. The sheer, terrifying aura of authority that made him a billionaire titan suddenly shifted entirely toward defense and excavation.

"Get out," Julian said.

Victoria laughed, a high-pitched, nervous sound that echoed hollowly off the vaulted ceilings. "Get out? Oh, very funny, darling. You mean get them out, right? Yes, let's call security right now—"

"I said," Julian roared, the walls of the mansion seemingly vibrating with the force of his command, "GET OUT OF MY SIGHT, VICTORIA!"

The sheer volume of his rage whipped through the room like a physical gale. Victoria stumbled backward, her face draining of all color. Her mouth worked soundlessly for a moment as her carefully constructed world of wealth, status, and absolute control began to crack down the middle.

"You're... you're throwing me out?" Victoria whispered, her voice trembling with rising hysteria. "Over them? Over a dirty little maid and a bastard child? You'll regret this, Julian Westbridge! My father will pull every single investor from Westbridge Enterprises before the sun sets! You'll be ruined!"

"Try it," Julian replied softly, his eyes dead and cold as winter steel. "And I'll make sure your father spends the rest of his natural life behind bars for the embezzlement scheme I've been sitting on for the past six months. Now. Pack your bags, strip off that ring, and get out of my house before I have you thrown into the streets."

Victoria stared at him, recognizing the utter ruthlessness in his eyes. She knew when she was beaten for the moment. With a venomous, murderous glare directed entirely at little Maya—who was still burying her face in Clara’s neck—Victoria spun on her heel and stormed out of the room, her sobs of rage echoing down the grand hallway.

The heavy oak doors slammed shut behind her, leaving a thick, suffocating silence in their wake.

Julian turned back toward Clara.

The maid was standing frozen against the wall, her breath coming in shallow, terrified gasps. She clutched Maya like a shield, her knuckles turning white. She knew what this meant. The secret she had guarded with her life, the promise she had made to herself in a dark, rain-slicked alley three years ago—it was all unraveling.

"Clara," Julian whispered, his voice cracking slightly. He took a step closer, but Clara instinctively retreated, pressing herself flat against the antique mahogany bookshelf.

"Mr. Westbridge, please," Clara choked out, tears finally spilling over her lashes. "Please don't hurt her. Don't take her away from me. I'll leave right now. I'll pack our things tonight. You'll never see us again. Just... please let us go."

Julian stopped dead in his tracks. The pain in her voice hit him harder than a physical blow. He looked down at the little girl peeking out from under Clara’s arm—those amber-brown eyes, the exact shape of her nose, the small freckle just beneath her left earlobe.

It was a genetic blueprint he couldn't deny, even if he wanted to.

"Three years ago," Julian spoke, his voice barely audible above the ticking of the grandfather clock in the corner. "The night of the annual charity gala... you worked the private VIP lounge. And then... you vanished the very next morning."

Clara squeezed her eyes shut, a sob tearing from her throat.

"Why?" Julian demanded, taking another slow step forward, his own eyes burning with unshed tears. "Clara, look at me! Why didn't you tell me?"
