Chapter 7 - THE PRESS CONFERENCE OF THE CENTURYBy 2:00 PM that afternoon, the global media landscape had completely shifted.

The initial tabloid frenzy over Victoria Vance’s dramatic expulsion from Westbridge Manor had been completely eclipsed by a far bigger earthquake: the simultaneous federal indictment of Marcus Vance for massive corporate embezzlement, and an emergency press release issued directly by Westbridge Enterprises announcing a major corporate restructuring—and a personal announcement from the CEO himself.

The grand auditorium on the ground floor of Westbridge Tower was packed to absolute capacity. Over five hundred journalists, camera operators, and reporters squeezed shoulder-to-shoulder, their camera lenses flashing blindingly toward the elevated stage.

Behind the wooden podium stood Julian Westbridge.

He wasn't wearing his usual guarded, icy corporate mask. There was a quiet, profound softness in his eyes that the press had never seen before.

He cleared his throat, and the chaotic roar of the auditorium instantly died down into a breathless hush.

"Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen," Julian began, his voice deep, steady, and echoing clearly through the massive hall. "I called this press conference today not to discuss the restructuring of Westbridge Enterprises, nor to address the legal actions currently being taken against the Vance family—though let me assure you, justice will be served to the fullest extent of the law."

He paused, taking a slow, deliberate breath.

"I am here today to talk about something far more important than stocks, shares, or corporate empires. I am here to talk about family."

A collective murmur rippled through the press corps. Flashbulbs went off like a continuous lightning storm.

"Three years ago," Julian continued, his gaze sweeping across the sea of cameras, "due to deception, manipulation, and the toxic ambitions of people who valued corporate mergers over human lives, a terrible injustice was committed. A woman I deeply respect—a woman who has worked with quiet, unwavering dignity inside my own home—brought a child into this world. A child that belongs to me."

The auditorium gasped. Reporters immediately began shouting questions over one another, but Julian raised a single hand, silencing the room instantly with his sheer presence.

"Her name is Maya," Julian said, a proud, tender smile touching the corners of his lips. "She is three years old. She loves music, she has the kindest heart in the world, and she possesses my eyes. For three years, her mother protected her in the shadows, shielding her from a world that was too harsh, too cruel, and too corrupt to appreciate her true worth."

Julian stepped away from the podium, turning toward the backstage curtain.

"Clara. Maya. Come out here."

The side curtain parted.

Clara stepped out into the blinding light of the flashbulbs, her breath catching in her throat. She wore a simple, elegant emerald dress that Julian had chosen for her, her hair falling in soft waves around her shoulders. In her arms, she carried little Maya, who looked around wide-eyed at the sea of flashing lights, burying her face shyly in Clara’s neck before peeking back out with her big, luminous amber-brown eyes.

Julian walked across the stage, meeting them halfway. He gently took Clara’s hand, lacing his fingers securely through hers, and reached out with his other arm to scoop Maya up onto his shoulder.

The little girl giggled, grabbing a lock of Julian’s hair just as she had done the day before.

Julian turned back to face the wall of cameras, holding his daughter high, standing proudly beside the woman who had silently endured hell to protect her.

"From this day forward," Julian announced into the microphone, his voice ringing with absolute, unshakable conviction, "there are no more shadows. This is my family. And anyone who ever attempts to harm them will answer directly to me."
