Chapter 10 - A New Horizon and the Ultimate TwistThe morning sun rose over Ashford Falls, painting the mountain peaks in brilliant gold. The diner was packed, but the whispers had changed entirely. When Clara walked down Main Street to open the hardware store, doors opened, friendly waves were offered, and Diane Corbin offered a respectful, silent nod. The town had finally learned not to measure a person by their height, but by their strength when tested.

Up on Shadow Ridge, the framing of Daniel’s mountain fortress was complete, standing proud and unyielding against the elements.

Clara stood on the finished front porch, looking out over the endless expanse of pine forests. Bane trotted up beside her, gently resting his heavy head against her knee, his obsidian eyes warm and loyal.

Daniel stepped out from the doorway, holding two steaming mugs of coffee, handing one to her with that warm, knowing smile.

"So," Daniel asked quietly, leaning against the timber pillar beside her. "Are you going to stay in town listening to the gossip, or are you ready to help me finish building a home?"

Clara took a sip of her coffee, looking out at the horizon where the mountains met the sky. She smiled, feeling completely at home for the first time in her life. "Hand me the hammer, Daniel. I’m just getting started."
