Chapter 2 - NO SAFE HAVEN: THE AMBUSH THAT SHATTERED THE SAFE HOUSE!

"You betrayed me," Dante said, his voice dangerously low, vibrating against Elena’s chest as he held her tighter. His bodyguards stepped forward, forming a human wall between the rifles and the children.
Silas chuckled, a dry, raspy sound that rattled in the cold alleyway. "Betrayal is such an ugly word, Dante. I prefer 'restructuring.' Your father left a secret clause in his will. If you died without an heir, the entire Russo syndicate’s offshore accounts—billions of dollars—would revert to the board. But if you had children, the money would be locked in a trust until they turned eighteen, untouchable by anyone but their legal guardian."
Silas gestured toward the triplets. "When Elena got pregnant, I realized I couldn't let you have those heirs. I faked her death to keep her hidden, planning to eliminate her and the children once I secured the decryption keys. But the foolish girl escaped my safe house with the children six years ago. I’ve been hunting them ever since. And today, they led you right to me."
"You used my grief to control the commission," Dante roared, his eyes flashing with a primal, predatory rage.
"And it worked beautifully," Silas sneered. "Kill the woman and the bastards. Keep Dante alive—we still need his signature for the docks."
Before the command could be fully executed, Dante reacted with lightning speed. He threw Elena into the backseat of his own armored sedan, which Nico had subtly backed into the alley corner. "Get them out of here!" Dante screamed to Nico.
A deafening roar of gunfire shattered the night. Dante drew his custom Kimber .45, firing three precise shots through the windshield of the lead SUV, killing the driver instantly. The vehicle rolled forward, creating a temporary barrier of twisted metal and sparks.
Nico slammed the accelerator, the armored sedan roaring to life, spinning its tires against the wet asphalt. Silas's men fired wildly, their bullets flattening against the reinforced ballistic glass. Inside the car, the triplets covered their ears, screaming in terror as Elena wept, her weak hands clawing at the window, watching Dante get swallowed by the smoke and gunfire.
Dante fought like a demon possessed. He moved through the crossfire, a ghost of vengeance, taking down Silas’s mercenaries one by one. But as he turned to face Silas, a heavy blast from a shotgun caught Dante squarely in the shoulder. The force threw him against the brick wall, his blood staining the ancient Boston masonry.
Silas stepped over the groaning body of a fallen guard, aiming his cane—which concealed a hidden blade—at Dante's throat. "You were a good Don, Dante. But a man blinded by love is a liability."
Through the haze of pain and bleeding heavily, Dante grinned, his teeth flashed white against the crimson smudging his face. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small black detonator.
"I didn't walk into this alley without a backup plan, old man," Dante wheezed.

With a hard press of his thumb, the abandoned church behind them erupted into a colossal fireball. The shockwave threw Silas off balance, sending him crashing into the debris. Dante, using the last ounce of his strength, dragged himself toward a secondary escape vehicle hidden in the shadows, collapsing into the driver’s seat just as consciousness began to slip away.
CHAPTER 2 HOOK: Hours later, in a highly secure, underground medical facility beneath a secluded mansion in the Berkshire Mountains, Elena woke up to the sound of steady beeping. Nico stood over her, his face pale. "The doctors saved your girls, Elena. They are sleeping. But Dante... the bullet was laced with a rare venom Silas uses. He’s in a coma. And the only person who has the antidote is the head of the rival Moretti family."
