Chapter 3 - THE CANVAS OF SECRETS: THE DEADLY TRUTH BEHIND ELENA'S ESCAPE!

The air inside the hidden bunker was thick with tension. Elena, though still weak and hooked to an IV drip, refused to stay in her bed. She stood by Dante’s bedside, her hand finally clasped in his. His skin was burning with a fever, dark purple veins webbing out from the gunshot wound on his shoulder.
The triplets—Mia, Cara, and Lily—stood at the foot of the bed. Mia, the bold one, looked at the painting they had carried all the way from Newbury Street. It was now resting against the medical equipment.
"Mommy," Mia whispered, her voice trembling. "Is Daddy going to die because of us?"
Elena choked back a sob, pulling her daughters into her arms. "No, baby. Your daddy is the strongest man in the world. He’s fighting."
Nico entered the room, his phone buzzing violently. "Elena, we have a crisis. Victor Moretti, the Don of the Moretti family, just sent a broadcast to the entire underworld. He claims he has the antidote to Silas’s venom. But he isn't demanding money."
"What does he want?" Elena asked, her voice hardening, a fierce maternal instinct replacing her frailty.
"He wants the painting," Nico said, pointing to the canvas. "We thought it was just a portrait you painted to sell for medicine. But Moretti’s informants say that before you fled Silas seven years ago, you stole something from the Russo vault. Something that was woven into the very fabric of that canvas."
Elena’s eyes widened in realization. She rushed to the painting, her shaking fingers tearing at the heavy wooden frame. With a sharp tug, she ripped the canvas away from the backing.
From the hollowed-out center of the frame, a small, micro-thin titanium ledger fell to the floor.
"It’s not just a ledger," Elena breathed, her face turning white. "It’s the complete list of every corrupt politician, judge, and federal agent on the East Coast that the Russo and Moretti families have bribed for the last thirty years. My father was the accountant for the mob before he died. He gave it to me to protect me. I hid it in the frame before Silas caught me."
Suddenly, the lights in the bunker flickered and died. Emergency red lighting flooded the room, accompanied by the deafening blare of a security siren.
The automated voice echoed through the concrete walls: WARNING: PERIMETER BREACH. SECTOR 4 COMPROMISED.
Nico drew his weapon, his face grim. "They found us. Silas and Moretti have joined forces. They don't just want the antidote—they want to wipe out the entire Russo bloodline tonight."
Elena looked at Dante’s unconscious face, then at the ledger, and finally at her three terrified daughters. She snatched Nico’s spare pistol from his tactical vest, her grip surprisingly steady.

"They think I’m the same scared girl from seven years ago," Elena whispered, her eyes flashing with a deadly, untamed fire. "They are about to find out what a mother does to protect her family."
CHAPTER 3 HOOK: As Nico moved to secure the door, a heavy explosion blasted the reinforced steel entrance open. Through the smoke, it wasn’t Silas or Moretti’s men who walked in—it was a woman dressed in a sleek tactical suit, holding two suppressed pistols. It was Clara, Dante’s fiercely loyal sister, who was supposed to be in Europe. Except she wasn’t pointing her guns at the invaders. She was pointing them directly at Elena.
