Chapter 1 - The Ghost ProtocolThe digital payload transmitted by sixteen-year-old Brooke Sterling landed on First Sergeant Marcus Vance’s burner tablet at 0342 hours, carried by a heavily encrypted proxy server that bypassed every firewall the Sterling family’s corporate IT infrastructure could muster.

On the screen, the high-definition footage played on an endless, looping nightmare. There was the gravel driveway, gleaming silver under the security floodlights. There was Rowan Sterling, laughing a sloppy, alcohol-soaked laugh, waving the bloodied tire iron like a scepter of absolute power. There was Jaxson, pinning the screaming nine-year-old child against the jagged stones. And then, framed in the glowing yellow square of the second-story window, stood Miranda. Her face was an emotionless mask. With a slow, calculated sweep of her manicured hand, she reached out and pulled the heavy velvet curtains shut, cutting off the view of her own flesh and blood being systematically dismantled.

Marcus did not curse. He did not slam his fist into the drywall. Decades of elite tactical conditioning had trained his nervous system to process white-hot fury into cold, diamond-hard geometry.

His phone buzzed. It was Colonel Arthur Mitchell.

"Package received, First Sergeant," the Colonel's gravelly voice came through the encrypted line. "That file is a digital nuclear weapon. It cuts through local jurisdiction, bypasses the pocket judges of Sterling Falls, and lands squarely in the lap of the Federal Bureau of Investigation's civil rights division. But if we hand it to them through normal channels, Sheriff Landry and his cronies will find a way to bury it before the sun clears the Blue Ridge Mountains."

"Then we don't hand it to them normally, Sir," Marcus replied, his voice dropping into a register that was completely devoid of warmth. "We don't want an arrest. We want an extraction, a containment, and a total liquidation of their operational capacity."

"Consider it done," Mitchell murmured. "Ghost Protocol is authorized. Your detachment drops in zero-seventy-two hours. Bring down the empire."

Marcus locked the tablet, slipped his combat knife into its sheath, and whispered into the empty room, "Sleep tight, family. The audit has just begun."
