My mother's assault wasn't an isolated incident. It was part of a systematic campaign to seize valuable properties before the upcoming municipal rezoning initiative. Brooke had been working directly with one of Landry’s corrupt real estate associates, promising to secure my mother’s house for pennies on the dollar in exchange for a cash payout.

Stephen Vance walked into the observation deck where I was reviewing the financial flowcharts.

"It's bigger than we thought," Vance said, handing me a freshly decrypted bank statement. "Look at the routing numbers.
