Chapter 3 - THE PENITENCE"Who is it?" I whispered, my voice trembling despite my best efforts to sound composed.

Dominic didn't answer with words. He turned a small brass dial on the side of his console, and a secondary monitor blinked to life. A dossier appeared on the screen. A face I hadn't seen in a decade stared back at me.

"Julian Vance," I breathed, the name tasting like ash in my mouth. "He was my father’s old business partner. Everyone said he died in a boating accident in the Atlantic five years ago."

"People like Julian Vance don't drown," Dominic said grimly. "They go underground to rebuild. He’s spent years trying to break into the Chicago logistics network, and he figured out the only way to hurt me was to take the person who manages the hidden assets. He thinks if he captures you, I’ll hand over every port and rail terminal I own on a silver platter."
