Chapter 8 - THE TRUTH REVEALEDThe leader of the cell—a scarred man I didn't recognize—staggered in through the ruined doorway, holding a smoking pistol with a shaking hand. He looked at the locked screens, then at Dominic bleeding on the floor, and started to laugh—a wet, desperate sound.

"You think you won, Ferraro?" the man choked out, blood pooling at the corner of his mouth. "You think she wanted a divorce because she was tired of the danger? You fool. She doesn't even know the real reason you married her."
Dominic’s eyes flashed with a dangerous, warning light. "Shut your mouth."
"No, let him speak," I demanded, my voice dropping an octave as I stepped between them. I turned to Dominic. "What is he talking about?"
The gunman coughed, grinning maliciously. "Ask him who ordered the hit on your brother ten years ago, Mrs. Ferraro. Ask him whose syndicate was responsible for the car accident that took your family away before you ever met him. He didn't marry you out of love. He married you out of guilt."
My world stopped spinning. The sound of the city outside vanished. I slowly turned to look at my husband.
Dominic’s face crumpled. The cold, untouchable Mafia boss melted away, leaving only a broken, bleeding man who couldn't meet my eyes.

"Is it true?" I whispered, the words tearing my throat apart.
"Your brother was mixed up with people he couldn't walk away from," Dominic said, his voice cracking, thick with unshed tears. "They were coming for you next, Sophia. I stepped in. I took control of the situation to keep you alive. But I couldn't save him in time. The guilt... the guilt ate me alive every time I looked at you. That's why I kept you close. Not as an asset. As my redemption."
