Chapter 4 - THE FORTRESS UNDER SIEGEA deafening boom echoed through the ceiling. The entire penthouse shuddered, dust and plaster raining down from the recessed lighting. An explosive charge had blown the rooftop access door.

Dominic moved with the terrifying speed of a apex predator. In one fluid motion, he pulled a custom-tailored tactical vest from a hidden compartment behind the bookshelf and strapped it over his broad chest. He tossed a heavy, encrypted satellite comms device across the desk toward me.

"Get into the panic room behind the library," he commanded, his tone leaving no room for argument. "The biometric scanner is set to your thumbprint. If the reinforced steel door to this office is breached, you lock yourself inside and you do not open it until the security indicator turns solid green. Do you understand me?"

"I'm not hiding while you fight an army alone!" I yelled, standing up so fast my chair tipped backward and crashed onto the hardwood floor.
