CHAPTER 6 — The Trial That Broke the Langston Name
The courtroom was packed.
Reporters filled every bench.
Victor Langston entered in a dark suit, surrounded by lawyers.
He looked calm.
Powerful.
Untouchable.
Until Ava walked in holding the metal box.
For the first time...
Victor's mask slipped.
The tape was played before the entire court.
Victor's younger voice filled the room.
"Switch the sick one. I don't care whose baby you take. My daughter will not die with my name attached to failure."
Gasps exploded across the courtroom.
Emily wept silently.
Olivia clutched Lily's hand.
Sophia stared at the man who had stolen her entire childhood.
Then Ava stood.
She did not cry.
She did not scream.
She simply looked at Victor and said,
"You didn't save your daughter."
"You abandoned her."
"You didn't protect your name."
"You buried it."
Victor was arrested before sunset.
His hospitals were investigated.
His fortune was frozen.
But the biggest shock came three days later.
When Ava received a sealed envelope from Victor's private attorney.
Inside was a legal document.
Written twenty-eight years earlier.
Victor had known one more secret.
The rare blood disorder had never belonged to Ava.
The doctors had lied to him.
The baby he thought was sick...
Had been perfectly healthy.
And the child who needed urgent treatment...
Was Lily.
The switch had not saved anyone.

Emily looked at Lily.

Ava stared at the paper in silence.
