Chapter 3 - The Federal Knock at NoonBy 11:45 AM, the DeLuca Development headquarters on Madison Avenue was in a state of unmitigated chaos.

Investors were flooding the reception desk. Junior executives were huddled in terrified huddles near the water coolers, whispering about bounced checks, frozen credit lines, and rumors that the payroll accounts had hit absolute zero.
Vincent sat at his grand oak desk on the forty-fifth floor, sweat beading at his temples despite the air conditioning. He had spent the last five hours calling every banking contact, every corrupt city official, and every high-priced lawyer on his payroll.
Every single one of them had given him the same chilling response: “Your corporate assets have been locked out by an internal compliance freeze with federal priority oversight. We can’t touch them, Vincent. It’s like the accounts completely vanished.”
The heavy oak doors of his office swung open without a knock.
It wasn't his secretary. It wasn't Frankie.
Two men in tailored charcoal suits stepped into the room, their expressions as expressionless as granite. One of them flashed a leather-bound badge.
"Vincent DeLuca?" the lead agent asked, his voice flat and authoritative. "Special Agent Miller, FBI White-Collar Crime Division. And this is Special Agent Vance."
Vincent slowly stood up from his chair, placing his palms flat on the desk. He forced a mask of arrogant composure over his rising panic. "You must have made a mistake, Agents. If you're here about business licenses, my corporate legal team can handle—"
"This isn't about business licenses, Mr. DeLuca," Agent Miller interrupted, pulling a thick manila folder from under his arm and tossing it onto the desk. It slid across the polished wood, stopping inches from Vincent’s hands. "This is about systematic tax fraud, interstate wire manipulation, and illicit asset concealment totaling over sixty million dollars across twelve dummy corporations."
Vincent stared at the folder, the blood draining completely from his face.
Inside that folder were itemized spreadsheets, exact wire transfer logs, destination accounts in the Caymans, and digital signatures.
Not forged signatures. His signatures.
"This is fabricated garbage," Vincent spat, his voice shaking slightly. "Show me a warrant."
Agent Vance calmly unclipped a secondary document from the folder—a legal attestation bearing a notary stamp and a corporate seal.
"We didn't need a search warrant, Mr. DeLuca," Vance said evenly. "Your corporate compliance officer walked into our Manhattan field office at 9:00 AM this morning with a complete, unredacted forensic audit detailing every single illegal transaction your company has executed over the past seven years."
Vincent froze. A heavy weight crashed down on his chest.
"Who?" Vincent whispered, though he already knew the answer in the deepest, darkest corner of his gut. "Who filed the audit?"

Agent Miller looked him dead in the eye.
"Your wife. Mrs. Evelyn DeLuca."
