CHAPTER 6 — The Billionaire's Final Lie

The shot echoed through the mansion.
Everyone ducked.
But Richard hadn't aimed at Ethan.
He had fired into the ceiling.
The chaos gave him just enough time to run.
He disappeared through a hidden passage behind the fireplace.
"After him!" the detectives shouted.
Ethan chased him through a maze of underground tunnels beneath the mansion.
The walls were lined with steel doors.
Old files.
Cash.
Passports.
Fake identities.
Richard hadn't just stolen one child.
He had built an empire by making people disappear.
At the end of the tunnel sat a private helicopter, its blades already spinning.
Richard climbed inside and laughed.
"You'll never prove everything."
"You already lost once."
Ethan stopped running.
Instead, he pulled something from his pocket.
Lily's phone.
"I don't need to."
Richard frowned.
"What?"
Ethan pressed one button.
The phone automatically uploaded every recording, photo, and hidden file to the police cloud server.
Richard watched his empire vanish in seconds.
"No..."
He grabbed the pilot.
"Take off!"
But the pilot didn't move.
Instead, he removed his headset.
"I'm sorry, Mr. Vale."
Then he showed his badge.
Federal Bureau of Investigation.
The pilot had been undercover for nearly two years.
Within seconds, armed federal agents surrounded the helicopter.
Richard tried to flee again but slipped on the rain-soaked landing pad.
The billionaire who had controlled judges, politicians, and investigators for decades lay helpless on the ground in handcuffs.
As agents led him away, he looked at Ethan one last time.
"You think you've won?"
Ethan didn't answer.
He simply turned toward Sophie.
She reached for his hand.
For the first time in ten years...
Father and daughter walked away together.
But as they reached the tunnel entrance, an FBI agent hurried toward Ethan holding a sealed envelope recovered from Richard's underground vault.
"Mr. Carter..."
"You need to see this."
Ethan opened it.
Inside was a recent photograph.
Lily.
Alive.
Standing beside the ocean.
The photo had been taken...
Just three weeks earlier.
At the bottom was a handwritten message in Lily's unmistakable handwriting:
May you like
"If you're reading this, Richard is finally out of time. Come find me... before they do."
