Chapter 2 - THE ENTRANCE THAT SHOCKED THE NATIONThe grand ballroom of the Imperial Reforma Hotel was a spectacle of pure, unadulterated wealth. Crystal chandeliers cast a warm, shimmering light over Mexico City’s elite—politicians, media moguls, high-society heiresses, and captains of industry. At the center of it all was Mauricio Ferrer, looking crisp in a custom tuxedo, with Vanessa Luján clinging tightly to his arm in her emerald-green evening dress.

Mauricio grinned as he clinked glasses with a prominent senator. In his mind, he had won. He had finally rid himself of Adriana, that penniless, quiet shadow of a woman who had weighed down his ambitions for six long years. Tonight was supposed to be his crowning achievement: securing the multi-billion-dollar government infrastructure grant for the Ferrer Group.

Standing a few feet away, looking utterly miserable in a dress that didn’t fit her, was five-year-old Renata. Vanessa had insisted on bringing the child, purely as a trophy to show the world that she was already stepping into the role of stepmother. Renata’s cheek still bore a faint red mark, and tears silently welled in her eyes.

"Stop sniffling, you brat," Vanessa hissed under her breath, squeezing Renata’s wrist just hard enough to leave a mark. "Look happy. The photographers are watching."

"I want my mommy," Renata sobbed quietly.

"Your mother left you because she’s a nobody," Vanessa whispered viciously. "Now stand straight."

Suddenly, the heavy double doors at the back of the ballroom slammed open with a sound like a cannon blast.

The room fell dead silent. Dozens of security guards clad in black tactical suits stepped in, forming a flawless human corridor. Through the doors walked a man whose presence commanded instant, absolute terror and respect: Don Mateo Salvatierra.

Behind him stood a woman who looked completely transformed. Gone was the faded cotton dress and the timid posture. Adriana walked beside her father wearing an exquisite, floor-length sapphire silk gown, her diamond necklace glittering under the chandeliers, her dark eyes flashing with lethal confidence.

Gasps echoed across the ballroom. Mauricio’s glass slipped from his fingers, shattering on the marble floor.

"S-Salvatierra?" Mauricio stammered, his face draining of all color.

Before Mauricio could process what was happening, little Renata broke free from Vanessa’s grip. The young girl ran straight past her father, past the shocked socialites, and sprinted down the velvet carpet.

She pointed her tiny, trembling finger back at Vanessa.

"She hit me, Mommy! She hit me and Daddy didn’t stop her!" Renata cried. Then, without hesitation, she leapt into the arms of Don Mateo Salvatierra, wrapping her tiny arms around his neck.

"Grandpa!" Renata whimpered into his shoulder.

The room collectively gasped. The most feared, powerful billionaire in Latin America—a man who made presidents tremble—gently cradled the little girl, his expression softening for a fraction of a second before hardening into pure, ruthless fury.

Don Mateo looked up, his icy glare locking onto Mauricio and Vanessa.

"Who," Don Mateo’s voice boomed through the silent ballroom, echoing through the speakers, "dared to lay a hand on my granddaughter?"
